Vaccination
Pet vaccination in Karachi.
At home or at a clinic, by a PVMC-registered veterinarian.
Vaccination is not an area where Pakistan lacks urgency so much as one where the reminders go missing. Nothing announces a lapsed booster until the disease arrives, and by then the cheap intervention has become an expensive one.
Rabies is endemic in Pakistan. Once symptoms appear it is effectively always fatal, in animals and in people, and the country records a substantial number of human deaths each year, mostly following dog bites. Vaccinating your animal protects your household as well as the animal.
Which vaccines are needed
Recommended for almost every animal
Rabies
CoreDogs and cats, and the people around them — Essential for every dog, and for any cat with outdoor access. Worth discussing even for indoor cats.
Core dog vaccines
CoreDistemper, parvovirus, adenovirus and parainfluenza — Usually given as one combined injection. Parvovirus in particular is a common cause of death in unvaccinated puppies here.
Core cat vaccines
CorePanleukopenia, feline herpesvirus and calicivirus — Also usually one combined injection.
Depends on lifestyle and risk
Leptospirosis
DiscussDogs, and it is transmissible to people — Worth discussing in flood-prone areas, near standing water, or where there are rats.
Feline leukaemia
DiscussCats — Relevant for cats that go outdoors or live with other cats.
Which of these your animal needs depends on species, age, lifestyle and local risk. The veterinarian confirms the plan; this is not a protocol to follow on your own.
How it works
Book a home visit or a clinic
Request a home visit in the app and a veterinarian comes to you, or book with one of the clinics listed on Vetline. Both routes end with the same vaccine given by a PVMC-registered vet.
The vet checks before vaccinating
A vaccine is only given to an animal well enough to receive it. Expect a brief examination first, and a conversation about age, history and any doses already given.
It goes on the record
The dose and the date are saved to your pet's profile, and the next due date is tracked, so a booster is not missed because nothing announced it.
Every veterinarian is PVMC-checked
Before a veterinarian is listed on Vetline we confirm they are registered with the Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council. Doses and dates are saved to your pet's profile, so the record survives a change of clinic.
After the vaccination
Mild tiredness, or a small lump at the injection site for a day or two, is common and not a cause for concern. Facial swelling, vomiting, hives or difficulty breathing is not: that needs urgent veterinary attention, so contact a clinic straight away.
Common questions
Can a vet vaccinate my pet at home in Karachi?
Yes. Request a home visit in the Vetline app and a PVMC-registered veterinarian comes to your address. We call you back to confirm the details and the slot first. Vaccination is one of the things a home visit does well, since it needs no clinic equipment.
How much does pet vaccination cost in Karachi?
It depends on which vaccines are needed and on the veterinarian, so we do not publish a single figure that would not be true for every animal. The cost is confirmed with you before anything is booked rather than discovered afterwards.
What vaccines does my pet actually need?
Rabies is essential for dogs and strongly recommended for cats. Beyond that, dogs are usually given a combined injection covering distemper, parvovirus and adenovirus, and cats one covering panleukopenia, herpesvirus and calicivirus. Additional vaccines depend on lifestyle and local risk.
My pet's vaccinations have lapsed. What now?
Bring whatever record you have, even if incomplete: a card, a photo, or just the name of the clinic that gave the last dose. A veterinarian can work out what is needed from there. A lapsed course is a very common situation and not a reason to delay further.
Is a reaction after vaccination normal?
Mild tiredness, or a small lump at the injection site for a day or two, is common. Facial swelling, vomiting, or difficulty breathing is not, and needs urgent veterinary attention.
