Parvovirus is one of the most common causes of death in unvaccinated puppies in Pakistan. It survives in the environment for a long time, which means a puppy does not need to meet a sick dog to catch it: the ground where one toileted is enough.

Rabies is endemic in Pakistan. Once symptoms appear it is effectively always fatal, in animals and in people, and the country records a substantial number of human deaths each year, mostly following dog bites. Vaccinating your animal protects your household as well as the animal.

Which vaccines are needed

Recommended for almost every animal

Rabies

Core

Your dog, and everyone around them — Essential for every dog, without exception.

Distemper

Core

A frequently fatal viral disease affecting multiple systems — Part of the standard combined injection.

Parvovirus

Core

Severe, often fatal gastrointestinal disease in puppies — The one that most often kills unvaccinated puppies here.

Adenovirus and parainfluenza

Core

Infectious hepatitis and respiratory disease — Usually included in the same combined injection.

Depends on lifestyle and risk

Leptospirosis

Discuss

Kidney and liver disease, and transmissible to people — Worth discussing in flood-prone areas, near standing water, or where there are rats.

The combined injection is usually given as one dose covering several diseases at once. Exactly which is included depends on the product your veterinarian uses.

This is the general shape, not a prescription. Real timings depend on the vaccine product, your puppy's age and health, and what has already been given. Your veterinarian sets the actual dates.

How it works

01

Book a home visit or a clinic

Request a home visit in the app and a veterinarian comes to you, or book with one of the clinics listed on Vetline. Both routes end with the same vaccine given by a PVMC-registered vet.

02

The vet checks before vaccinating

A vaccine is only given to an animal well enough to receive it. Expect a brief examination first, and a conversation about age, history and any doses already given.

03

It goes on the record

The dose and the date are saved to your pet's profile, and the next due date is tracked, so a booster is not missed because nothing announced it.

Every veterinarian is PVMC-checked

Before a veterinarian is listed on Vetline we confirm they are registered with the Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council. Doses and dates are saved to your pet's profile, so the record survives a change of clinic.

After the vaccination

Mild tiredness, or a small lump at the injection site for a day or two, is common and not a cause for concern. Facial swelling, vomiting, hives or difficulty breathing is not: that needs urgent veterinary attention, so contact a clinic straight away.

Common questions

When should a puppy be vaccinated in Pakistan?

The course usually starts at six to eight weeks, with further doses every two to four weeks until around sixteen weeks, and rabies given from about twelve weeks depending on the product. Your veterinarian confirms the exact dates for your puppy.

Can my puppy go outside before the course is finished?

Not freely. Until the course is complete a puppy is not fully protected, so keep them away from unknown dogs and from anywhere unvaccinated dogs toilet. Parvovirus survives in the environment for a long time. Carrying them for socialisation is safer than walking them on the ground.

How much does dog vaccination cost in Karachi?

It depends on which vaccines are needed and on the veterinarian. The cost is confirmed with you before anything is booked, so there is no figure to discover afterwards.

Can a vet vaccinate my dog at home?

Yes. Vaccination needs no clinic equipment, so it is well suited to a home visit. Request one in the app and we call you back to confirm the slot.

My dog's boosters have lapsed. Do we start again?

Sometimes, and sometimes not: it depends how long it has been and what was given before. Bring whatever record you have, even a photo of the card, and the veterinarian will work out the shortest safe route back on track.

Get it done, and get it recorded.

Book a home visit or a clinic appointment, and the next due date is tracked for you.
